Jorge is a Mexican writer/director from Morelia. He holds an MFA in Film Production from NYU and a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy.
He has received grants from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), and Fundación Jumex for Contemporary Art, as well as support from several prestigious film funds — including the Spike Lee Production Grant for his short film IN FREEDOM.
Currently developing his first feature film, La Ausencia, which was selected for the 2022 NEXT STEP workshop at the Cannes Critics’ Week.
His work explores the mysticism of rural Mexico, magical realism, and the horror genre. His films have been screened at Cannes Critics’ Week, Morelia International Film Festival, Olhar de Cinema, and Fantasia Film Festival.
He was recently featured in the 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Filmmaker Magazine and was selected for Berlinale Talents 2023
